Message from Chairperson 2020 – 2022

“Excellence is not an exception; it is a prevailing attitude.”
Colin Powell, US Ex-Secretary of State
In two years’ time, the HKORN shall celebrate her 30th birthday. It is indeed my great honor to take up the leadership and step forward hand in hand with the Association toward a new decade. The success and its longevity were solely relied on the support from over 1000 members at present, the council members and the chairmen all through the years. Despite their diverse background that worked at different operating theatres in Hong Kong, they are all united to pursue a common goal – excellence in perioperative nursing.
The existing volatile environment with unexpected pandemic infectious disease outbreak has caused undue stress to the global nurses towards the ‘New Normal’ of the health care system. With no exception, the OR nurses are also facing numerous challenges at a different perspective. The evolving of new ideas like the SMART OT, artificial intelligence and tele-care medicine has stimulated the OR nurses on realizing the needs on advancing their knowledge and skill to cater for this new technology.
The HKORN has continued to meet the needs of their members proactively. Over the years, we have provided abundant trainings locally and sponsorship for members to seize exposure at overseas. There is no doubt that we will move on with non-stop momentum. In this regard, in the coming years, the HKORN has planned to provide more learning opportunities and sponsorship for our members to abreast these modern developments, through attending related training or research activities.
On the other hand, the HKORN has decided to enhance the mutual communication with their members. This has achieved successfully through building a Liaison Members WhatsApp Group. In the near future, we shall complement the present website with new Apps at both Apple and Android cellular platforms. We aim to provide a new communication channel using mobile phone to promote evidence-based practice through convenient discussion among members.
With the new communication interface and the unfailing support from our council and committee members of this new term, we are always ready to receive your feedback and suggestion for improvement. Last but not the least, I would like to echo the quote from Mr. Colin Powell, “Excellence is not an exception, it is a prevailing attitude.” We shall take pride to pursuit the attitude and joint hand to promote the standard of perioperative nursing in Hong Kong.
